As we all remember, last year shortly after the SCORE Baja 1000 in December of 2013 a portion of the scenic toll road from Rosarito and Ensenada collapsed. The landslide was caused by a combination of heavy rain and seismic activity near Salsipuedes. Since then, CAPUFE the transportation sector of the Mexican Government that is responsible for the Ministry of Transportation has been hard at work rebuilding the damaged stretch of highway. With travel being shut down from La Fonda to San Miguel due to the damage, the detour has been the life blood for commuters, citizens, travelers, and cargo wanting to reach Ensenada. CAPUFE is projecting that the scenic toll road will reopen on September 15, 2014. All though the road will be open the project will not be complete until April 2015. So it looks like Baja 1000 prerunning adventures will be made a little easier with the opening of the toll road.
